Donation Policy

The La Crosse County Historical Society acquires and maintains artifacts of past, present and potential future historical interest which are relevant to its mission to collect, preserve, and make available to the public for its education the historical legacies of the Three Rivers Region.

The Society cannot accept all donation offers. The cost of acquiring, processing, conserving, storing, and providing access to collection items is large.

Guidelines for acceptance of donations:

  1. Item must be relevant to the society’s mission (above).
  2. Quality and condition of item must be suitable for display and research.
  3. Society must be able to properly store and care for the item.
  4. Provenance or history of the item must be documented and the donor must have clear title to the item.
  5. Item may be accepted only if there are no restrictions or conditions placed on its donation.

If you believe your item meets the guidelines above, please call: 608-782-1980 to talk with the curator. Please do not bring items in for donation unless you have called first. LCHS is not responsible for items left at the museum without prior notification.
