LCHS Donation Policy
The La Crosse County Historical Society acquires and maintains artifacts of past, present and potential future historical interest which are relevant to its mission to:
Preserve, interpret and display the history of La Crosse County and to educate regarding the importance of that history.
The Society cannot accept all donation offers. The cost of acquiring, processing, conserving, storing and providing access to collection items is large.
Guidelines for acceptance of donations:
- Item must be relevant to the society’s mission (above).
- Quality and condition of item must be suitable for display and research.
- Society must be able to properly store and care for the item.
- Provenance or history of the item must be documented and the donor must have clear title to the item.
- Item may be accepted only if there are no restrictions or conditions placed on its donation.
If you believe your artifact meets the guidelines above, please call 608-782-1980 to speak with Peggy Derrick. Please do not bring items in for donation unless you have first called. We cannot be responsible for items left at the museum without prior notification.
