Where: Auditorium, La Crosse Public Main Library, 8th and Main Streets, La Crosse
On the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, LCHS member and genealogist Karen Hoel discusses researching your civil war ancestors. Identifying an ancestor among the three-million-plus combatants can be daunting. You must understand the war, the support groups involved and the records generated from 1861 to 1865. Karen will provide guidance on finding and using Civil War records and on identifying and working with the many historical records that can help you learn more about your ancestor’s civil war experiences.
She will help you learn how to identify whether you have a civil war ancestor, where to find civil war records—there are millions of records and records types located in many different repositories—and how to access records. This will be a great session for beginning or experienced researchers to enhance your civil war genealogical knowledge. This presentation is free and open to the public.
